Used child labor to clean up around the house.
Madagascar was the movie of choice for tonight.

Great weather for an alpine hike, so we headed up the 20 for a hike among the trees and along 3 alpine lakes.

A very tired Arlo when we stopped for dinner at 5 Mile House.
Arlo saw a lot of fire trucks, ambulances and rescue trucks and games. He had a ball.

Then it was time for Nevada City’s Pride Parade. Lots of fun with floats and costumes.

June 5 started off with a knock on our door from Arlo. We ate a little breakfast and then we played Arlo’s version of Skyjo.

T ball time.

Dinner at Three Forks and a walk around Nevada City for their Art Walk.
The NC Winery had a beautiful quilt and mixed media show. Some of the ones that caught my eye:

Drew and Erin are in South Africa for Drew’s conference and some exploring.
A couple videos Erin sent:
And a herd of wart hogs
It’s also Drew’s 38th birthday. We will celebrate when that get home in the middle of June.
Once again, we had a visitor at the RV. Almost as soon as he was up the steps, he asked Pappy for pancakes. Guess what Pappy made them!

6 o’clock on the dot we got a knock on Belle’s door. Guess who?
I asked, who’s there. The answer was it’s Arlo. AND it has started … life around Arlo, just like we’ve wanted. Pappy read some books then Arlo and I had to go to his playroom for some toys and more books.

Lenny is not as thrilled as we are with Arlo. Just a little jealous.
Shan and Carl appeared around 7:30 so Pappy made pancakes for all of us.
It’s hard to believe how much more talkative he is. He carries on a conversation and he knows what he wants (a lot like his mom was!). He likes to sing, too. I’ll try to get some videos of him singing, especially the Hallelujah Chorus! That sure surprised me
It was time for Arlo to go to Gigi’s. his daycare. Pappy and I drove him there and listened to Arlo tell us all about the drive.
When we got back to Shan and Carl’s. Shuff and Carl got started mowing and weed whacking.

Even though we knew the Alsups were away camping, we still arrived on Monday. Decided we needed to get ready for our time with Arlo.
We did some shopping and took a walk and rested in the sunshine so we’d be ready to play.
Shan, Carl, the dogs and Arlo arrived. Are we ready?
Arlo is talking a blue streak. It’s so fun to hear him tell his stories. He jumped out of the van and immediately went to check out his toys that he hasn’t seen in 4 days

Than it was time to play catch with the football.

He had to give his daddy a kiss on the ear
More tomorrow as we get to spend more Arlo time!
Over the last 2 days, we have driven 287 miles on the Loneliest Highway in the US. It’s so amazing that there is that much of open high desert land, interspersed with just a few SMALL town.

The small town of Austin in the distance.
Tonight we will stay at our last Harvest Host, McHoppers Brewery.

Some pics of a few quick things I saw as we took a morning walk in Fernley.

Then onto Shan, Carl and Arlo’s place Can’t wait to see them.
Snow on the Sierras as we drove down 80 to Nevada City

We left Deer Creek SP in the rain. Fog on the Wasatch Mountains was pretty.

Our next stop will be in Eureka, NV. We took Route 6 out of Provo. This is the same route 6 that goes across northern PA. Route 6 becomes Route 50, the Lonliest road in the US. It’s straight with very little traffic. We’ve enjoyed this route several times.
Here’s a little bit of what we are seeing as we drive.
Wound through a canyon.

See why it’s called the loneliest highway … no cars, not much of anything but we like driving this road much more relaxing for Bill

Yes, Lenny can sleep sitting up
Those are salt flats in the distance.
Passed windmills doing their thing.

After we crossed into Nevada, we were in by the Great Basin National Park we had stopped here before but didn’t have my Passport book of National Parks so we stopped to get my stamp. The park protects a diverse landscape from high peaks to low valleys. It is home to the Bristlecone Pines, some of the world's oldest non-clonal organisms.

I have seen these pines and thought they were dead. Shows you how much I know!
Tonight we are staying at Pinto Summit BLM, just outside of Eureka, NV. After setting up, we drove into town. We were here about 8 years ago. The 2020 census has the population at 414, but that doesn’t count the miners there are 4 mining companies that employ a number of miners. Still, there’s not a lot of business here we stopped at the Jackson Hotel and Saloon for a beer. Met Amanda, the bartender and a couple miners.

Beautiful bar and stain glass windows

Before dinner we took a walk on old Route 50 you could still see faint yellow lines with sage brush covering the sides.

Sunset was colorful

Tomorrow it’s on to Fernley, NV.
