June 9 - John Day Fossil Beds

From the Lava Beds National Monument, we drove to John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. This whole area has been such a surprise to Bill and I. When you look at a map you don’t see many roads or towns so we didn’t think there was much here. 

Boy were we incorrect. There’s lots of hiking and the scenery is gorgeous. 

We are staying in the small town of Dayville at the South Fork Campground. After we set up, we walked the town. 

Tomorrow we are planning to go hiking at the Blue Basin unit of the Fossil Beds.
