Port Angeles - Salt Creek Rec Area

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Sept 17-20

We got very lucky grabbing a first come first serve campground site. It was the last site at Salt Creek Recreational Area, right on the Strait of Juan De Luca. Beautiful spot.

We started our Saturday with strawberry pancakes and then a 2.5 mile hike out of the campground. Hiked in the forest and along the Strait of Juan De Luca.

Banana slugs live in the Olympic National Forest. They can be several different colors.

Ferns grow big here and cover quite a lot of the forest.

We drove to see the Madison Falls in the Olympic National Park near Port Angeles. A short hike brought us to the falls and this huge tree.

Jillian and I went back to the tiny town of Joyce to do our laundry.

Then a drive to a picturesque town of Sequim. Ate crab roll and more clam chowder. Jillian is rating the different chowders we’ve had. This one might make it to #1. We’ll see. Sequim is where Linda, Shan and I visited the Lavendar Festival in July 2006.

On the way back to the campground we stopped at the Dungess Refuge.

We sure have lucked out on our weather so far. Beautiful blue skies and temps in high 60s.

Our last night here gave us a gorgeous sunset. We viewed it from Tongue Point at the end of our campground.

This has been a great 3 day. Now we’re headed south to see Mt Ranier. Hoping the fires have been contained some.

  1. I love these pictures of the ocean and mountains and sunsets!! I was going to ask if this is the farthest north you have ever been on the west coast, but I see you were up there in 2006. I didn't know you back then!
