April 7 - Get the Raincoat out

Since it was raining, we stayed around the RV until we went to Shan and Carl’s for dinner. Their friends, Charlotte, Terry, Balen and Lark drove up from Palo Alto. It was nice to spend time catching up with them.

Balen loves trying to pick up Banjo but Banjo usually growls and tries to gum him. That doesn’t stop Balen from trying.

Lark played with Arlo.

March 4 - Cosy Rosy and the Shed - Mississippi

Decided to drive south to Pascagoula, Mississippi to stay at Cosy Rosy’s and have the Shed BBQ. We had stopped here in January when Drew and Erin visited us at Gulf Shores. Best BBQ then and now, plus some Mississippi Delta culture.

Walking around the campground we saw this sign. Looked for alligators but didn’t see any.

Dinner time was a combo of ribs and brisket. Yummy and enough for another meal.

When we were at Terry and Sandy’s, the weather person talked about storms coming across the south. Luckily we made it here before the winds got too strong. Winds are supposed to diminish late tonight. Hopefully we can be on our way to Creole, Louisiana tomorrow.

March 3 - Oak Mountain State Park-Pelham AL

When we drove to Gulf Shores in January , we stayed at Oak Mountain State Park. Since we liked it, we decided to stay there again. Lots more campers than when we were here before

We hiked the Light Trail again for about 2 miles. We had blue skies and temps in the 60s so we put away our coats hoping we wouldn’t need them for awhile. We had a view of their lake.

We watched the weather to learn more about the storms coming across the south. We decided to try to get an early start tomorrow to our next destination, Ocean Springs. We plan to stay at a Harvest Host, Cosy Rosy’s which is next door to the Shed, the best BBQ we’ve ever had.

January 21 - Meteorologists were right

Yep , for once, the meteorologists were right. It started snowing today around noon.

We did get a walk in before the historic white stuff started. Then we were inside for the day except when Lenny and Banjo had to go outside.

A video of the snow around 5 pm. It’s still coming down.

This isn’t my picture but wanted to have a picture of snow at the beach in Pensacola.

January 20 - Drew and Erin leave early because of weather

We had the day planned, then Mother Nature took over and changed those plans. Meteorologists are calling for very cold temperatures with snow and ice. Definitely not what we expected when we decided to come south. 😫

The kids changed their flight plans so they could leave a day earlier because southern airports were closing and canceling flights as of midnight tonight.

So we drove east to Pensacola to drop off their rental car, then west to Mobile to catch their flight. From there, they flew to Dulles, DC, and finally home to Sacramento. So glad they made that decision. They are safe on the west coast with 60 degree weather!!

We are hunkered down in the RV to wait and see what happens. The campground told us to let water drip from our faucets because of the cold temperatures.

More tomorrow on this historic time.

June 5 - 100+degree temps! River cats Baseball

While we were in Sacramento with Drew and Erin, Shan on sent this video of Arlo. He’s very proud of himself.

Yes, is over 100 degrees, but it’s dry heat, right!!??  It doesn’t matter, it’s HOT.

Drew and Erin invited us to a Rivercats game. We thought it would be too hot but decided to go have a beer and nachos and then leave, since Drew was still celebrating his birthday!  Notice his birthday crown

They sat on the grass under some big trees and there was a breeze. It was really quite comfortable. So, we stayed for the whole game. Met Drew’s grad student Samantha. A fun night.

April 26 - Crazy Weather and Arlo visits the RV

For the past couple days the weather has been cooler, 50s and low 60s with some rain.

I had made baked oatmeal for breakfast so we all had some of that after Arlo woke up from his nap.

Guess it must have tasted good to Arlo!

Shan got a little work done while we took advantage of the sun coming out. Went for a walk around the fairgrounds with his stroller. Arlo talked and talked but of course I had no idea what he was saying. I think he was just glad to be out and about.

Lunch at the RV was soup on this chilly day. Arlo liked it.

Then, just after lunch and Shan and crew went home, it HAILED!!  Crazy weather.

April 5 - Middle of snow country

Snow everywhere, Tahoe style.  This is the house Carl and Shan rented for our weekend.

Look at the amount of snow on that roof. This is snow country.

Inside it was toasty.

Carl, Shan, Arlo, and Drew and Erin gave us a Winter Wondergrass Experience for Christmas. And what an experience it was. In 30 degree weather, bluegrass music, food trucks, thousands of people, AND snow swirling around we listened to come great music

That was day 1.

May 8 - Not much happening today

It was a little chilly and rainy again so not much happening but this is supposed to be the last non sunny day.

Decided it was time to craft a little. Shan said that Arlo can only distinguish between black and white so I made some squares out of black and white felt to place near his changing table. It felt good to get out my tools and craft a little.

While I was at the dining table, I looked outside and saw a woodpecker on a bush close to the RV. This is the longest we’ve stayed in one place so it was nice to see the little red headed bird.

March 7 - A little delay due to weather

AND we are off again. Left about 10:30 which was about 2 hours later than we had hoped. It had snowed just a little overnight and Bill wanted to wait till the roads were dry so salt didn’t kick up under the RV.

We have reservations at Draper Village, a Harvest Host member, just south of Blacksburg VA. We’ve stayed here several times before as we’ve headed west.

Pulled into Draper Village about 7 pm, about an hour later than we had hoped but there was a wreck on I-80 that set us back. Traffic was really heavy which didn’t make for a nice trip. But we made it and are set up. Here’s the sunset as we were arriving.

And the moon rise over the RV

Tomorrow we keep heading west on I-40 into Tennessee.
